In the 1990s, a tradition percolated at the U.S. Open in the form of stickers. Like a schoolyard prank of sticking “kick me” on the back of unsuspecting students, U.S. Open revelers targeted police officers. One spectator recalled a naive trooper walking the room while unwittingly getting plastered with a sticker stating “I Love Butt.” As he patrolled the room, the officer was oblivious to the reasons behind the laughter that accompanied him. The 1998 Open featured “Toddzilla, the Norwegian Killa,” “Better Dead than Red...USA #1” and “Barrett Christy, Not Just Good, Good Looking.” In 2000, the stickers included commentary on other fringe cultures (“Phish Phuckin’ Sucks”), inducement to inebriation (“Beer is vacation in a can,” “Have you seen my liver?” “Fuck the Contest...I came to Puke”), teenage sexual desires (“Got Milf?,” “My Other Ride is Your Mom,” and “Sleeps Well with Others”), and respect for the fallen (“Byrnes”). A memorable Open featured placards of Vince LaVecchia and buttons stating “I slept with Vince LaVecchia.” Brew Moscarello mused, “For some reason, Vince was the face for that year.... They were everywhere. It was a big thing....Everybody loved him. He’s just a sweetheart.” The 2003 US Open poster featured imagery from past US Opens and the line “We’re 21 and we have the history to prove it”. I need help deciphering the images (labeled). Here is what I have: A. Method. Brushie? Powers? Who is it? B. Trevor andrew? Who is it? C. Helicopter D.Jake? E. MC Chris Copley F. Badge. Melee on the Mountain- party/bust at Stratton Mountain Inn? other post half pipe shenanigans? G. The Cage, 1996 H. LaVecchia face placard (the H is cut off, oops) I. I saw Terje go fucking huge sticker J. Panda? K. Grenade Girl, Danny Kass victories (thanks) L. Unknown man M. Burton goggles girl? N. “Oh Wow” man? O. Palmer still pukes P. Crowd surfing. Anyone have any insights on these “iconic “ moments?  I was making a presentation at a local historical society about Snowboarding in Southern Vermont. I was asked the question “when did the term ‘ride’ become associated with snowboarding?” I had no idea. Was it always “riding”? Was it “boarding” first? What are your recollections of Crazy Train? In the early 1990s, Burton often held a preseason camps at the Magic Mountain half-pipe, so riders from the area often poached the pipe. The real attraction at Magic, however, was a railing that led from the parking lots to the main lodge. The pedestrian railing was “super long, twisty, not very steep but just really long and twisty.”Jason Ford recalled, “And when the jibbing era came on, it was all about who could conquer the Magic rail.
