While Stratton is at the epicenter of this tale, Magic Mountain and Bromley were snowboarding hot spots at this time. There was the “Glebelands” crew - named after Mount Glebe, the mountain that comprises Magic Mountain. They consisted of Shem Roose, Randy Gaetano, Gavin McMorrow, Scott Lenhardt, Jesse Loomis, and the LaVecchia brothers - Nick, Vince and Mike. They rode a lot at Magic and eventually called Bromley their home mountain. For Shem Roose, who had no skiing background, Magic Mountain was his first ski area experience. Up to that point, he had only snowboarding near his family farm in Cambridge, New York. On his first run, his skier friend brought him to the top of the mountain forcing a trial by error experience for Roose’s first foray on packed snow. Despite an inauspicious beginning, Roose had “such great memories from riding Magic and Bromley with all those guys even when conditions were absolutely crappy. I can remember some of our best days were riding in the rain because we were we were all so stoked to be hanging out and riding together."[i]
